Specialized-lululemon wins women’s team time trial world championship

VALKENBURG, Netherlands (AFP) — Amber Neben, Evelyn Stevens and Specialized-lululemon stormed to a win in the inaugural women’s team time trial on the opening day of the UCI World Road Championships on Sunday.

Specialized finished 24 seconds ahead of Australian team Orica-AIS, which boasted the top two finishers in the 2011 individual time trial at worlds, with Judith Arndt and Linda Villumsen.

Apart from Neben and Stevens, Specialized’s line-up also featured Dutchwoman Ellen Van Dijk and German trio Charlotte Becker, Trixi Worrack and Ina-Yoko Teutenberg.

AA was third, 1:59 in arrears.

Omega Pharma wins men’s team time trial title

Omega Pharma-Quick Step won the men’s team time trial world championship Sunday in Valkenburg, Netherlands. Reigning world TT champion Tony Martin anchored the Belgian squad to the world title on the first day of the UCI Road World Championships.

The team entered Sunday’s trade team time trial as the favorite, boasting Martin, French TT champ Sylvain Chavanel, Dutch road champ Niki Terpstra, Belgian TT champ Kristof Vandewalle, Slovak TT champ Peter Velits, and Tom Boonen.

BMC Racing, which featured Americans Taylor Phinney and Tejay van Garderen, finished second, at three seconds, on the 53km course. Orica-GreenEdge was third, at 47 seconds.
