I am a Pennsylvania rider new to TT's and have been following tht SoCal forum this summer. The forum is loaded with helpful information and is great for a newbe like me. I am seeking advice regarding TT wheels (I know it has been discussed in the past). I am 5 foot 7 inches, 132 pounds, and ride a small Giant TCR zero. I have the aerobars, but want to add a very good set of wheels. I am seeking a very good pair of light, deep rim, aero wheels....they can be expensive. Not sure if they should be 650 or 700 (I have never riden 650s), not sure if I should purchase disc. Finally, maybe it's best just to buy an off the shelf, Cervelo or something equivalent. Any advice appreciated.

Just how expensive are you willing to go here? There is a wide range of wheels available to you if money is no obstacle. Personally I don't htin kyou can go wrong with Zipp. The 404 is light, strong and fast. Good all around fast wheel. I have a set of these myself and I have been nothing but happy with them. If you have never ridden 650's then I would just stick with the 700's. Not because they are bad but if you switch wheel size then your going to have to switch bikes too as a 650 won't fit on your 700 frame. Hold off on the disc for a while. Get some strenght built up and then spring for one. I got a disc about a year after I started TTing. I noticed a large improvement in my time. To the tune of about 40 seconds over a 20K TT. Cervelo's are nice but I have to give a sponsor plug here and tell you to at least take a look at Javelin. Great bike, and great people. Scott will treat you right.

Thank you for the great advice. I will stick with the 700s. I am considering Zipp, Hed, Renn, and any other light, aero high performance wheel. I have not bought much gear lately so I can spend a lot on these wheels (not really sure what the medium to high end will cost, but I will pay it. After getting a taste of TTing this year, I really found I like it and want to go to my next TT with a good set up). I borrowed a pair of Spinergy Revs for this weekends TT and found them nice, but too heavy. Finally, my research seems to indicate that the Cervelo, Trek and a few others make really good TT bikes. Although I would like to get the wheels first (as everyone tells me this is the most bang for the buck), I also am looking for a bike. I will do some homework on the Javelin. Any thoughts on wheels/bike for a relatively small rider appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help!!
