Okay, I'm going to post this without intending to piss people off or come across ungrateful to everyone involved in the SoCal TT Series and all the wonderful race directors who bust their butts putting on races for us TT junkies. Truth is far from it....
However, I've been mulling this over and I can't come up with a good answer.
Here's the dilemma: The Kern Wheelman Time Trial is in Bakersfield. Is Bakersfield in Southern California or Central California? I Googled it and according to the CA State website, Bakersfield is in Central California.
So, while I am totally grateful for having as many races in the SoCal TT Series, I wonder if Bakersfield is beyond the justifiable geographic boundary for a Southern California race?
To look at it another way, those of us in the hunt for the elusive SoCal TT Series Championships and living in San Diego have to drive 480 miles to Bakersfield in order to participate in a race that will last 30 minutes or so. This requires us to travel there the day before. Same can be said for those living in Bakersfield who are in the running and must travel all the way to San Diego for Fiesta Island.
I thought I'd post this and open it up to friendly, constructive input to see what everyone thinks. If it's "hey Kam, suck it up...it is what it is..." I'm good with that, but I want to hear what others have to say.
Thanks for your time,
Kam Zardouzian

P.S. I meant 480 miles to Bakersfield and back.

no your right... bakersfield is central CA. and i too want to thank everyone involved in the series. it's great to have these kind of events thru the winter months as a gauge for fitness on the upcoming stage racing season as well as the tt experts that have no tt's during the season in this crit happy area.
im in irvine and it really is way to far to travel for a 10 mile tt. if it was a state champs or nats... sure but once a month for 10 miles. plus i agree for the guys up there it's a trek to most of all the events, santiago, fiesta island etc.
i also heard from ray that tom's farm is no longer after last sunday. that he will move it closer to him which is very far again. i would suggest maybe a poll or something to see where the main number of riders are living and pick courses closer to that (or something).
that is my two cents

ps - kam... great job on the tt's... you have made these last couple months more fun that usual having someone else going for it as well. keep it up as i'm going to stage race mode next weekend, but i'll try to make it to as many as i can that are left. dont let one of the guys that show up every once in a while take the crown

Hey Kam,
Welcome to my world !!! lol Of the 20 races in the Series, 16 of them are between 185 miles and 240 miles away. And yes, it gets a little costly traveling that far to just do a 10 mile or 20K TT, but this is a TT Series. Bakersfield is just 82 miles from the course at Piru. Is Bakersfield really central CA?? Hmmm San Francisco and Sacramento are almost dead center of our state. Bakersfield is actually closer to San Diego, than either of those. While it would be totally awesome to have the entire series right in our own back yard, I think it's refreshing having all the different venues, each with their own nuances. The course at Bakersfield is an out and back challenging and technical course, it is fast, with good road surfaces, and everyone who has ever raced on it has complimented the promoters on it. You're looking really awesome this year, come up and ride with me, if you hate the course, I'll never tell you to suck it up again. lol

We appreciate your feedback, and all the feedback we receive from riders like yourself. The input gives us ideas to make the series better for all those who compete in it.

Hey guys,
The BF(E)(Lol, Just kidding) course looks super fun. I recommend the trip.
I made the trip a while back to help them with the timing on their fisrt race. (Althought, they didn't need my help.)
The course looked technical and fun. It has a slight climb on the way out, down hill on the way back, and some super fun looking sweeping turns.
Check it out it. I think it is worth the trip.
