I am jumping on the "Power Meter" trend and looking for input on Ergomo Power Meters. For me, it looks to be the most cost effective way to go when I factor in road / tri bike usage, 650c / 700c wheels, race wheels vs training wheels, etc. Can anyone give me feedback on this system?
THANX

Advantages
1. outstanding software (CyclingPeaks) with many useful analysis tools
2. third-generation design
3. fully hard-wired system is not affected by electronic or radio interference
4. easy installation
5. rechargeable computer battery lasts 5,000 hr., is good for ~30 hr., recharges in 2-3 hr.
6. almost no limit on component choice
Drawbacks
1. large/heavy computer
2. bearings must be factory serviced ($300) every 15-20,000 mi.
3. not easily moved from bike to bike
4. cannot accept 2004 Dura-Ace cranks
5. averaged data can be accessed only by download (cannot be viewed during interval)
6. not useful on tandems

Thank you Gary for your in depth response...I appreciate your input. In regards to disadvantages, item # 5, "averaged data can be accessed only......" You used the word "averaged", do you get any data (unaveraged?) in real time? This would be a deal breaker for me if you can not view actual output while under way. Thanx again for your help.

The new Ergomo computer is a lot better than the one that led to the post Gary referenced.
The new computer is much smaller (same length and width as the SRM PC5, but twice as tall), and in interval mode simultaneously shows current and average power (the only PM that does that). You can also adjust the display rate for power and HR (adjust rolling average display). The screen is big and easily readable.
The system is very light (adding only 150g or so to a regular campy record BB+normal cycle computer).
The only downsides to the system are the BB maintenance (the costs of which supposably will come down as their production ramps up, but time will tell) and the fact that it only measures left pedal torque and doubles it.
I've been using one for almost a month now and have been very happy with it.
