A question for you PowerTap users out there -
I have been using a wired PowerTap SL for the better part of 2-2.5 years. I have tons of data to show consistency in rides, event comparisons year-over-year, etc. I have even had the hub sent back to Cyclops for servicing. I have used the same hub in both a 404 and 303 set-up.
I just started using a Zipp Sub-9 PowerTap disc for the time trials. While I have only had limited time and file output from this disc, I have not noticed any major discrepancies between the two.
Both "zero out" in a coasting mode so I don't believe there are any torque issues to address in either.
However, after the two recent events at Santiago Canyon, I have wattage levels on each of the climbs that are atleast 30% below what I know I am capable of putting out. While I didn't feel particularly "snappy" in yesterdays race, this seems a bit too much.
Does anyone have data they would be willing to share/discuss regarding wattage discrepancies between the wired SL hub and the new disc? I do plan on doing some additional testing of the disc on Newport Coast to test wattage levels, which is where I conduct most of my hill interval work.
Thanks guys.

Jeff, I don't have PT's but you could test them out on a bike that has an SRM or Quarq crank power meter and see how they compare.

30% is a pretty significant drop in power (e.g., FT=300, -30% = 210, did you mean 30 watts as opposed to 30%? How did your HR, speed, torque, and overall time compare to other Santiago TT results?
I just purchased a Zipp 900 PT wireless and have not tried it yet. I plan to do some testing on it based on your post.

Jeff, how is the data, did you get drop outs with the new wireless unit?

Dave....
It looks like it might be more on my personal performance than the PT units. I did some testing earlier in the year on the first 4 miles of the Santiago course, basically to the climb. When I go back and look at that I'm about 10% off, which could easily be an "off" day.
I'll keep posting on the hardware, but the wattage numbers appear to be consistent between the two....
