i'm new to this. i'm lost and completely overwhelmed. i want to do some tt's but i don't even know where to start. how many races do you have to do to be ranked? what category am i in? i have a tri bike, can i use it? any direction would be good. i don't even know what questions to ask, so any help would be good
thanks so much! i hope someone out there can send me in the right direction.

so, i'm giving criteriums a chance but so far i have not been successful, at all. i've crashed twice and dropped out once. the first one i did was with cat 1, 2, 3, and 4 combined so i was the least experienced there. and by least i mean i was the only one there who had never done a criterium before and there was only one other cat 4 there. she had been racing for a few years though. i wasn't sure of the rules so when i fell behind after the 4th lap, i dropped out. i didn't know that it was okay to fall behind. i'm still kicking myself for that one. it was also a mind game for me. i was telling myself that i wasn't as good as everyone else and i know that didn't help. the second one i was doing fine and hanging out in the back until i didn't quite make a turn and hit a curb and went over the bars. the third one, on the first lap, i was cut off and went sliding as we headed into a corner. i still have some road burn from that as it was only a week ago. it's so frustrating because i know i'm far more efficient than what i've been doing in these last few races. i just want to find something that fits. i'm a strong cyclist but, but out here in the desert, with no group to ride with, i'm missing out on some key skills for that sort of racing, mainly group riding.
